Immerse yourself in the rich and unique flavors of coffee crafted by Elvis Dávila, a proud second-generation coffee producer from the tranquil village of El Basal, nestled within the Chontali district. Unlike its neighbors Jaen and San Ignacio, Chontali's coffee-growing territories boast a distinct climate and a rare coffee variety that sets it apart. Here, the environment is cooler and less humid, fostering the growth of a distinctive variety flaunting light bronze buds, an intriguing sight that's a rarity elsewhere.
Spread across 2 hectares of fertile land, Elvis cultivates not just the traditional caturra but also this unique bourbon-like variety, under the crisp, high-altitude air, approximately 1850 meters above sea level. The idyllic micro climate of the region provides the perfect nurturing ground for his coffee farm.
True to his artisan roots, Elvis and his family take a hands-on approach, personally overseeing the majority of the picking process. However, during the hustle and bustle of the peak harvest days, they welcome additional help to ensure the quality of their yield. The coffee is then fermented for an unhurried 36 to 48 hours, thanks to the region's cooler climate. It's subsequently sun-dried on tarpaulin mats for 10 to 15 days, a process that enhances its unique flavour profile.
In 2022, Elvis's dedication to his craft was recognised at the Peru Cup of Excellence competition. His carefully nurtured lot garnered a highly commendable 7th place, scoring an impressive 89 points. This accolade underscores the superior quality of his coffee and affirms his unyielding commitment to cultivating the finest beans. Enjoy the fruits of his labour and experience coffee like never before.
